In order to make public transit easier to use, you can now pay your fare with your contactless credit or debit card on some exo buses in Laurentides sector, as part of a pilot project.

The project is part of the ARTM’s Concerto project and follows in the footsteps of the STL’s contactless payment pilot project. It will last two years and allow exo to test the interest for this payment mode as well as its practical use.

How it works

  • Transfers are allowed up to two hours after purchasing your fare, but only on exo buses equipped with a payment terminal (lines 100, 101, 102, 103, 105, 107, 22, 24 and 9) and on STL buses. No ticket is needed, you simply tap your card.

Payment details

  • $3.75 (Bus ticket) per ride between zones A and C.
  • A preauthorized amount of $18.75 will be charged on debit card upon purchase.
  • A maximum of 5 fares can be paid with the same debit or credit card, per person and per transaction.
  • There is still no charge for children 11 years old or under.
  • Free transit for seniors and reduced fares are still applicable on these local lines (OPUS card required).

  • No, within the framework of this pilot project, this new payment mode is only offered on exo buses equipped with a payment terminal, i.e. lines 100, 101, 102, 103, 105, 107, 22, 24 and 9 in the Laurentides sector.

  • For the time being, this feature is only offered on exo buses equipped with a terminal (lines 100, 101, 102, 103, 105, 107, 22, 24 and 9) and on STL buses.

    • If you tap your contactless credit or debit card after more than two hours, a new ride will be charged to your account.
    • The same payment mode (debit or credit) must be used when you transfer from one bus to another. Otherwise, a new ride will be charged to your account.
    • Your card can be tapped up to 5 times to pay for 5 passengers. However, the rides must be taken immediately, it is not possible to pay in advance or to bank them for later.
    • Transfers are only possible between exo bus lines equipped with a terminal (lines 100, 101, 102, 103, 105, 107, 22, 24 and 9) and STL bus lines. You cannot transfer to other bus lines, or to the train or metro.
    • Contactless mobile payment (phone ou watch): Apple Wallet, Google Pay, Samsung Wallet.
    • Cash payment and OPUS cards are accepted as usual.
    • Contactless visa and Mastercard chip cards.
    • Contactless prepaid Visa and Mastercard chip cards.
    • Mobile payment on smartphones: Apple Wallet, Google Pay, Samsung Wallet.
    • The American Express credit card is not accepted for purposes of this pilot project.
      • Contactless debit cards equipped with a microchip (the Interac logo must appear on the card).
      • Contactless visa or Mastercard cards equipped with a microchip.
        • The Interac logo must appear on the card.
        • The word debit must figure on the Visa or Mastercard card (for example: Tangerine Visa Debit Interac or Banque Scotia Visa Debit Interac).
        • The terminal recognizes these cards as debit cards (not as credit cards). Therefore, the fare will be charged to the check account.
      • Foreign debit cards are not accepted for purposes of this pilot project.
    • The terminal is unable to read the card (defective, expired or without the contactless technology card).
    • The card has been tapped and/or removed too fast (reading error).
    • There are insufficient funds in the bank account. A minimum amount of $18.75 must be available in the account for each ride purchased (this applies to debit cards only).
    • The card is blocked because an incomplete previous transaction.
      • Sufficient funds must be available in the account for the previous transaction to be completed before the user can purchase a new ride.
      • If a purchase cannot be completed, the system will try to complete it within the next few days.
    • The terminal is defective.
  • Credit or debit cards are not accepted on taxibuses. Taxibuses accept only cash payments and OPUS cards containing a monthly fare.
