Time for more free time
Ever wonder how you managed to get everything done before the pandemic, when working full-time at the office was the norm and classes were usually held in-person? Teleworking may be the new normal, but our to-do lists are longer than ever, and so many of us feel like we’re always playing catch-up. It seems like a hectic lifestyle is just par for the course these days.
But maybe there’s a way to reclaim some of our lost time on public transit, to turn our daily commutes into a moment of wellness and relaxation. Because we all deserve it and, more than ever, we need it, too.
Nadine, exo user, finished her eighth novel this month
Nadine has two great loves: reading and running. By taking the bus, she can dive into her novels, giving her free time at night to hit the running track.
Joe, exo user, knit four scarves this week
Joe has a passion for skating and knitting. By taking advantage of his commutes to knit, he can devote more time to practising new moves in the park.
Kathryn, exo user, just completed her first collection of children’s songs
Kathryn’s two favourite activities are writing children’s songs and doing yoga. Thanks to exo, she can let her creativity run wild on her commute, leaving her time to recharge later with a yoga session.
There’s lots to do on the train
Choosing the train to commute allows you to take advantage of life while you ride. It’s a more efficient and, above all, a more enjoyable way to travel. You can do all sorts of activities before and during your train trip. Here are some ideas that just might convince you to ditch the car for good.
Waiting for the train
If taking the train makes you smile, why not use this time to take a selfie or play hopscotch on the floor tiles?
You could also mix pleasure and practicality to complete some of life’s daily tasks, like browsing supermarket flyers to write up your weekly grocery list.
You could also use this time to do a short guided meditation found on YouTube.
In the train
Once seated comfortably in the train, the possibilities are endless.
We recommend starting your trip by greeting your fellow passengers. You could meet new friends and even find your soul mate.
Feeling exhausted after a long day at school? It’s an ideal opportunity to recharge with an interesting podcast, play a fun game or dive into a good book. You just might feel better by dinnertime.
Writing is an interesting outlet. Take advantage of the beautiful landscapes and peaceful ride to write a short story inspired by your trip and the places you travel through. Jot down bits of overheard conversations and details of daily life to craft a creative tale.
All sorts of different people ride the train. It’s an excellent opportunity to observe your fellow passengers and sketch their portraits.
Music is fun to share, so why not create a collaborative playlist? If you’re travelling with friends or even strangers open to the idea, ask everyone to add a track to the shared list so you can all discover new music.
Want to impress your new flame or your kids? Learn a magic trick! It’s easy: grab a deck of cards and with a bit of talent and an online tutorial, you’ll learn a trick in no time.
Having trouble getting ahead at work? I’m sure some of you would be tempted to catch up on your work emails. While it’s a good opportunity to do so, we still recommend using this time for yourself. Riding the train is like having your own private chauffeur, so it’s best to get the most out of this “luxurious” experience.
