Paratransit agency (PTA)

Public transit agency, municipality, Regional County Municipality (RCM), Intermunicipal Transit Board (ITB), municipal management board, intermunicipal management board or Regional Transport Board (RTB) providing transportation services to persons with disabilities and located in whole or in part on the RTM territory.

RTM territory / Greater Montréal

RTM territory comprises those of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (82 municipalities), the Kahnawake Territory, and the Ville de Saint-Jérôme. This territory is shared with the ARTM. The blue line appearing on the Map of paratransit services - municipalities served outlines this territory. Certain PTAs are located only in part on RTM territory.

Paratransit

Transit service adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities, provided on a door-to-door basis and by reservation.

Metropolitan paratransit

Paratransit service provided on a door-to-door basis and by reservation. Ensured by each PTA’s existing fleet of taxis, accessible taxis or minibuses, metropolitan transit trips allow eligible customers to travel outside of the local territory served by their PTA, namely on another PTA’s territory within the RTM service area, making access to other destinations possible.

Integration of paratransit service

Term used to designate the pooling of paratransit services of each PTA, so that customers can travel outside of their local territory.

Local territory served by a PTA

Territory corresponding to the territorial limits of all municipalities participating in a PTA.

Local paratransit trip

Trip made by a user in which the point of origin and destination are located within a single PTA’s territory. The trip can be ensured by taxi, accessible taxi or minibus.

Secondary trip

Paratransit trip made on the territory of one PTA over the course of a day, in conjunction with a metropolitan trip.

Metropolitan paratransit trip

Trip allowing eligible customers to travel outside of the local territory served by their PTA, but within the RTM service area, making access to other destinations possible. The trip can be ensured by taxi, accessible taxi or minibus.

Out-of-territory paratransit trip

Within the framework of metropolitan paratransit, a trip made outside of RTM’s service area. A trip ensured by at PTA to a service point located outside of participating municipalities.

Direct metropolitan trip

Metropolitan paratransit trip made directly, without using a transfer point.

Metropolitan trip by transfer

Trip made using a transfer point.

Metropolitan trip by exchange

Metropolitan trip made in collaboration with another PTA.

Transfer point

Public place whose interior and exterior layouts allow customers to wait comfortably and safely between two metropolitan trips and used in the framework of
metropolitan paratransit.

User, customer

Person residing on the RTM territory and eligible for paratransit, in compliance with the MTQ’s Paratransit Eligibility Policy.
