In operation from 1882 to 1981, the Saint-Jérôme line was returned to service in 1997 as a measure to mitigate traffic congestion due to roadwork. The line was made permanent in 2000 to respond to increased ridership.
Terminating first in Blainville, it was extended in 2007. It therefore starts in Saint-Jérôme and services the north shore of Montréal, the city of Laval as well as certain locations in northern Montréal, all the way to downtown Montréal. The RTM owns the stretch of track between Saint-Jérôme and Blainville and Canadian Pacific (CP) owns the rest of the track.
